  • Absolute Masterpiece

By far the best METAL album I have listened to in the past 5-7 years. Every song from start to finish is amazing. This album continues Dave's attempts to capture the collective mind of the citizenry. The message is clear: OPEN YOUR EYES! YES, YOU! YOU ARE THE PERSON THAT IS LOSING YOUR RIGHTS. THE RIGHTS, IDEALS, AND PRINCIPLES THIS NATION WERE FOUNDED UPON ARE BEING TAKEN FROM WITH YOU! ALL WHILE YOU ALLOW IT TO HAPPEN! If you are familiar with Megadeth, and especially Dave Mustaine, then you know that he has no concern for the potential backlash by the media and public, in regards to his philosophical beliefs. This album ventures into the political sphere, but has an equal balance of classic storytelling. The sheer variety of sound is soo refreshing. Instead of every song having the same timing, same sound, and same message, as is the case with most of today's metal, TH1RT3EN goes from hard rock, party rock, melodic metal, and much more. Black Swan is the song that with stick with you forever, but the entire album is MUST LISTEN! I cannot believe I went this long without mentioning him, but the work of Chris Broderick is astounding. His sound is instantly recognizeable, and he shreds on this album. Amazing, Amazing Shredder! As always, Ellefson shreds, and shreds hard! Shawn Drover holds this entire album together perfectly. None of that drum machine BS you hear on almost every metal album today. The drums are amazing throughout. The best compliment I can give Drover is that the drums drive the music, but never become overbearing. While perhaps not being the focus of the album, the way the drums are always perfect to bang your head along with while listening makes this a masterpiece for me! All around amazing album! While it has different sound from the thrash classics from the 80s, I would place this album right up there as far as great, memorable, impactful storytelling. The music takes you on a journey, an amazing ride! 5 Stars!
  • Underrated Album

This album is one of my own personal favorites out of their own, the heaviness of Sudden Death, catchiness of Public Enemy, and the overall feel of the album almost is like a second "Greatest Hits" (except for fast lane, screw that song), and you can hear Dave pouring out his heart on 13, with a theatrical performance rivaling "In My Darkest Hour", overall a good purchase and worth my 10 bucks.
